Schapiro created a series of paintings and prints around 1990 based on the theme of Punch and Judy, often superimposing small images of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera on the heads of the puppets. She described these works, in part, as "humorous comments on the situation of men and women in relationships of long standing."
